Music is really important and personal to me, and is one of the major ways I feel and express emotion. I also really enjoy the practice of active listening, and analysing the music I listen to. This page is a place for me to share some of my favourite music and talk about it.

My Listening StatsI really love the vocals of this song, and the way that it builds is really powerful. Love is a common theme in Mother Mother's music, but this stands out to me. The song has a really sweet and nostalgic feeling to it.
One of my favourite tracks. The rhythmic structure is based on the Fibonacci sequence, which I think is mathematically really cool but still emotional.
A really emotional track that I find really beautiful. The character singing is in despair, and is struggling to find hope. It starts out with her wanting to die, and ends with her wanting to live.
A really interesting instrumental track. The way the different instruments interact with each other is really cool, and I especially love the use of dissonance.
A song about the prevalence of gun violence in the USA. It focuses on a person who is feeling neglected and ignored by society, and turns to violence, likely referring to a school shooting.
A banger song. It's too bad it was featured in Twilight. Its essentially about being attracted to someone who is bad for you, but being helpless to resist them.
Another great song from Arcane. This one is about taking a chance on starting something new. Its a really optimistic song telling you to just enjoy the moment and enjoy the journey, even if you don't know where it will take you.
A upbeat song about adrenaline rush and excitement, referring to the feeling to speeding down the road and feeling one with the car.
A dreamy song about the desire to escape reality and be with someone you love. The lyrics are really poetic and the music is really atmospheric.
A story about a couple falling in Love in a rush, and while they started off in love, they end up in an abusive relationship. The song is about how the main character is taking revenge on her partner for the abuse and trying to move on with her life.
This song focuses on themes of existentialism and nihilism, and encourages the listener to find their own meaning in life and not be afraid to break free from societal norms.
This song was written in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I find it suits current events as well. Its about how corporate CEO's are the ones gaining from most from turning peoples against each other and causing division and fear.
This song is about drifting through life but not really feeling like you belong anywhere. A lot of people think that if they just move, things will get better when often times its not about where you are but about you and the things you do.
This song is about the lead singer's mother, who was in a coma for 10,000 days before she passed away. Although the singer feels that most Christians are hypocrites, he admires and respects his mother for living her faith when everyone else just talked it. The song is very emotional and powerful, and the lyrics are really poetic and beautiful.
A really gentle and emotional track with a beautiful guitar and piano duet. All of Lena's music is really well composed. It captures the feeling of two people quietly supporting each other after a long and hard journey.
This song is basically about setting boundary's and rejecting peoples unsolicited opinions. Its meant to act as a message to those who try to control and critique, telling them to "hush". As with most of The Marias' music, it has rea really moody feeling.
An intense orchestral track that captures a chaotic and violent force. It really makes you feel the intensity and and speed of the scene it was written for. Woodkid makes such amazing and cinematic music, and it I keep coming back to it.
This song has that really interesting electronic and bass sound that is characteristic of Glass Animals. Its about being stuck in a relationship that you know is bad for you but you can't cut off, similar to a drug addiction.
In what I'm realizing may be a pattern in my music, this is also about an abusive relationship. In this case its about her breaking up with her partner, and not taking any excuses, expressing that she is tired of them being so self-absorbed.
This is a relaxing song about the confusion and vulnerability that comes with a new relationship. The soft vocals and gentle instrumentation give it a calm atmosphere that makes it nice to just sit with and listen to.
This song is about a woman who is eager to settle down and have a child with someone she loves. She repeatedly wishes to keep her partner by her side. The song has really interesting looping vocals that I don't hear often.
One of Imagine Dragons darkest songs, this covers ideas of death and hopelessness. It has an incredible raw vocal performance. Unfortunately it was removed from all streaming platforms in the US, so you may need to look it up on youtube.
This is a bass cover on a classic song about the harsh reality of working life and debt. Even though it's an older song, the message still feels very relevant today. I feel that the deep base and acoustic style really adds to the atmosphere of coal miners working hard for very little.
A really energetic track that feels chaotic in a fun way. The pacing and vocals give it a lot of personality and gives it a really unique and interesting sound.
This song is about how divorce can cause homes to feel unsafe and cause a lot of fear and anxiety in children. It also has associations with mental asylums, indicating that the person in question may be manic.
This song mixes electronic and rock elements, creating a mysterious feeling that makes the whole track feel tense and atmospheric. I especially love that deep rumbling bass that makes you feel like you are falling deeper and deeper down a dark hole.
This song originally caught my attention with its really interesting instrumental, but I also came to appreciate the lyrics. It's about a woman who wants revenge for sexual harassment and doing so In her own way. Its a really empowering song in a way, as she is not letting others control her.
A haunting folk song with a really unique atmosphere. The story is about feeling conflicted on a lost love. He no longer sees them, even though others still do, as they are like a ghost of someone he loved.
A confident and emotional song about identity and self reflection. It was originally written as the artists experiences with fake friends while rising as an music artist.
I really enjoy this song. It seems to have a narrative, though I couldn't really tell you what the meaning behind it is. Never the less, its a really interesting song.
A darker pop song about unhealthy relationships and emotional baggage. It focuses a lot on the singers life and his strained relationship with his father. His friend also experienced this, and he want to do what he can to be a father figure for her.
This song is about the struggling with the changes that come with a lot of attention. It's about the band trying to remember where they came from and who they are, even as they travel across the country, and deal with criticism.
